We all know that in order to maintain healthy-looking skin we should use a cleanser and a moisturizer every day, but the reasons for using a toner still remain a mystery to many. What’s so great about a bottle of sweet-smelling liquid? Is it really necessary? The answer is yes! Toners can benefit all skin types. Read on to find out why you should incorporate toner into your daily skincare routine.
1. Balance
After we cleanse our face, the fine acidic layer on our skin – the pH level – can be disrupted, making our skin more susceptible to damage and loss of elasticity. Toners work to restore and balance the natural pH level of our skin, which in turn protects it from environmental toxins, irritation and dehydration.

2. Clean
All you have to do is look at the cotton ball after you’ve used toner for evidence that it does a great job of removing leftover makeup and oils that your cleanser missed. By getting rid of residual dirt, you prevent nasty clogged pores from developing and unsightly blackheads from appearing. You’ll also notice your pores are smaller, which not only shields the skin but makes it look smoother and more youthful.

3. Refresh
Toners can refresh and rehydrate the skin, particularly in warm weather and after a workout. Keep a spritz bottle of toner in your gym bag, at your desk or in the fridge for an instant pick me up anytime…and remember to bring a small bottle with you the next time you travel for in-flight rejuvenation.

4. Soothe
I know what you’re thinking: “My skin is so sensitive, there’s no way I can use a toner!” Not true! Many toners these days are alcohol-free and actually calm irritated skin and diminish redness. Look for ingredients like calendula and allantoin to reduce inflammation.

5. Exfoliate
Many toners have exfoliating properties like salicylic acid or fruit acids, ingredients that are also great for controlling blemishes in oily and acne-prone skin. Exfoliating surface dead skin cells leaves your complexion looking brighter and feeling healthier.
