It’s that time again, when resolutions either come to fruition or die on the vine. If you’ve resolved to lose weight this year, we’re helping you refocus on your goals and see those pounds come off.

Take stock of what you’ve accomplished (pat yourself on the back).
It’s important to start your resolution revamp on a positive note so take a look back at what you have accomplished and be proud of any headway you’ve made towards your goals. Even if it doesn’t seem significant now (as in you haven’t lost that last five pounds), every workout you have done or healthy meal you’ve cooked counts for something so give yourself a pat on the back.

Commit to a more realistic schedule.
Think about what you originally thought you would be able to accomplish and ask yourself whether it was realistic given your current schedule, workload and level of commitments. If you had planned to hit the gym six days a week and work out with a trainer every weekend, it might be time to recalibrate your get-fit plan. Analyze your daily schedule and add workouts in only where they make sense. If six doesn’t work, aim for four gym days a week. On days you can’t make it the gym because of work or other commitments, make sure you walk for 30 minutes on your lunch break, or before or after work to make up some of the difference.

Add excitement with new classes or sports.
Doing the same thing at the gym week after week gets boring. If you’re finding your motivation to work out has been waning lately, it might be time to switch things up. Revive your desire to work out by swapping out one of your regular gym activities (running on the treadmill, swimming laps), with an alternate activity every week. This can be as simple as signing up for various cardio and strength-training classes on offer, or joining a sports league that practices or plays weekly. The point is to keep ahead of potential boredom so it doesn’t become an excuse to skip the gym.

Enlist some friends or family.
One of the best and easiest ways to keep your fitness routine interesting is to work out with a friend. Poll your friends and family to see who else has weight loss or healthy living goals and commit to getting fit as a team. You don’t have to be attached at the hip, but having someone to go to the gym or jog with even once a week can go a long way towards helping you reach your goals more quickly.

Switch up when you work out.
Have you been trying (and failing) to make it to the gym after a long day at work? Maybe you need to consider working out in the morning or on your lunch hour. If morning workouts just make you angry, consider an afternoon or evening trip to the gym. Just because working out a certain time works for your boss or your best friend, doesn’t mean it’s right for you. Do some experimenting to see what time of day is the most ideal option for you workouts.
