There’s no denying that studs are hot this year: they were hot throughout spring and summer and show no sign of slowing down for fall. Luxe, punk-inspired looks are trending hard for the upcoming season; still, I’m sure I speak for most of us when I say that no one wants to look like they just stepped out of a Guns N’ Roses concert. How do you sport this trend without looking like a rock and roll reject? Easy! Stick to a few key accessories or embellished pieces and never, ever wear all of them at once.
1. Embellished Dress
If you’re not sure the studded trend is for you, start with a simple dress with delicate bead embellishments along the neckline, like this gorgeous beaded jacquard print dress by Matthew Williamson (available on Net-a-porter).
2. Studs and spikes necklace
Fusing the tribal trend with punk influence, an exotic, stud-adorned necklace that features pops of neon — like this one by Nutcase Fashion (Etsy) — is a great way to wear the trend. Pair it with a simple LBD or a tailored blazer, for a look that is as edgy as it is sophisticated.
3. Stud adorned blouse
More Rive Gauche than rock and roll, a Diamanté-studded silk-georgette blouse like this one by Sonia Rykiel (Net-a-porter) is a very glamorous way to add studs into your wardrobe. Silk blouses with strategically studded collars are already showing up everywhere for the upcoming season.
4. Luxe bag
Cool sophistication and rock-and-roll sensibility merge with Alexander Wang’s “Rocco” handbag (Montaigne Market). Because the shape of the bag is classic and the studs are understated, this is a piece you can wear long after the trend dies down. Look for a bag in a neutral colour like black, grey or taupe; for maximum versatility, get a model that features a detachable shoulder strap.
5. Studded pump
One of the places studs seem to be popping up the most is on shoes. Embrace your edgy side with a pair of sexy studded pumps like these ones by DV Dolce Vita (Heels). Just don’t be surprised if everyone’s eyes are on your feet.
6. Pyramid earrings
Add an edgy-luxe vibe to your wardrobe with a pair of studded earrings, like this leather-pyramid model by Belle Noel (Eluxe).
7. Studded bracelet
Look ready to rock in a stunning studded cuff bracelet, like this one by Asos. Pair it with a simple T-shirt or with cocktail attire for a look that is exciting and directional.
8. Clutch
Add a bit of heavy metal to your wardrobe with a fun studded clutch like this Dylan Double Zip Clutch by Linea Pelle (Zappos). Metal-embellished clutches like this one are popping up everywhere and are a great way to add the trend to your wardrobe without going overboard.
