Indie darling turned Oscar favourite Michelle Williams has been turning heads lately for more than just her killer acting chops. From her elegant red-carpet looks to her chic city ensembles, the star of My Week with Marilyn has become known for a personal style that pairs classic and pared-down glamour with quirky vintage touches. When Williams stopped by CBS’s This Morning studio in New York City, to promote her film Take This Waltz, she was spotted leaving the building in a gorgeous printed Jason Wu dress and black loafer pumps, accented to perfection with a simple pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses.
Want to channel Michelle’s hip, retro-inspired look? Here is how you can do it for less:
1. Retro-style dress
Michelle’s 1960s-inspired Jason Wu dress is gorgeous. But unless you’re willing to eat Ramen noodles for the next month, you might want to keep shopping. Michelle has often been photographed wearing pieces with a Peter Pan color. This 1950s Chevrolet Car Print dress by Yumi ($71, available at House of Fraser) captures Michelle’s style without the gasp-inducing price tag.
2. Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses
Paying tribute to classic Hollywood cool, Michelle is rarely spotted without a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunnies shielding her from the rays and the flash of cameras. Pick up one of the many inexpensive knock-offs, or splurge on the original ($150, Piperlime).
3. Lightweight blazer
Take Michelle’s look into fall by adding a lightweight blazer, like this grey ponte rolled sleeve blazer by Topshop ($70) — it looks great paired with casual and dressy pieces alike. As temperatures begin to cool, throw on a pair of dark opaque tights for a look that is perfectly autumn-ready.
4. Pink lipstick
Simple and sweet, Michelle often wears a soft pink lip colour like this “Pink Champagne” shade by Face of Australia ($10, Fashion Addict).
5. Basket tote
Although Michelle isn’t pictured here [via asdasd] carrying a purse, she has often been photographed wandering around the streets of New York City with daughter Matilda in tow and boyfriend Jason Segal by her side, carrying a basket purse like this one by Zara ($20). Fresh and completely unpretentious, this is the kind of bag that never really goes out of style.
6. Loafer pump
Add a touch of collegiate chic with a pair of patent leather loafer pumps, like these ones by Kate Spade ($77, Endless).
7. Pearl studs
Michelle has been known to keep her accessories low key, which is why we think she’d feel right at home in a pair of timeless pearl studs like this set from Bloomingdale’s. At $60 for the set, these earrings are a bit of a splurge; however, they are the kind of piece that you can wear for years to come.
