It’s the final long weekend of summer, and if you’re quick you can still take one last trip. Booking a flight to an exotic location is probably out of the question now, there are always great destinations close to home. For example, the super charming Food Network star, David Rocco, has mapped out a personalized getaway in the fabulous city of New York.
Here are some of David’s favourite NYC hang outs:
Bleecker - It feels like an old New York neighbourhood with trendy new clothing boutiques to old school bakeries and cafés. Once a breeding ground for bohemian culture, it has maintained its atmosphere but over the years has transformed into one of the best food streets in southern Manhattan. Try and have a bad meal on this street, I dare you! Also, my favorite Gelato place in Florence ‘Grom’ opened up on Bleecker to make me feel like I’m right at home in Florence!
Fun Fact: One block north of Bleecker, at Minetta & MacDougal, is Café Wha?, where many influential people like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and Woody Allen got their start.
Hotel Gansevoort – My favourite place to stay in New York. It’s in a hip area and has a rooftop pool with an amazing panorama of the city… and it’s reasonably priced (as far as hotels in New York go)
Fun Fact: They do a good job of keeping out the riff-raff, I watched them turn away ‘The Situation’ for giving his room the rockstar treatment on his previous visit. Now that’s my kind of place
Jeffery- If you want the latest in men’s and women’s fashion, then look no further then this mini department store. While Jeffery’s offers all the designers like Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman, there is a cool factor here in that their pieces are limited and edgier then the competition. And with the store DJ spinning great tunes from 80′s pop to indie rock, shopping couldn’t be more fun. It’s also the only place I know that has almost all of it’s fall inventory in June..
449 West 14th Street New York, NY 10014, United States
Across from the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District they carry new designers and is very NY cool.
861 & 873 Washington Street NYC.
