Forget solid colours this season, printed pants are in and easily add interest to any look. From florals to checks to stars and stripes, there’s a printed pant to suit every taste and budget and I’m rounding up a few of my favourite pairs (plus sharing tips on how to pull them off).
1. High-waisted art nouveau
Pair these high-waisted art nouveau print trousers (£35) with a crisp white shirt and chunky Mary Jane heels for a look that’s fresh, confident and versatile. The art nouveau print is beautiful in rich blue and burgundy hues, and the cropped fit and ironed creasing make for a streamlined, flattering fit for both office and weekend wear.
2. Go geometric
Classic blue jeans will never go out of style, but if you want to spice up your denim collection, check out this pair by J. Crew in get-noticed black and white geometric print ($158). They might look loud but you can easily temper the look with a solid hued sweater in black, blue or even plum.
3. Rosebud print
If you’re new to printed pants and aren’t sure about how to work the trend, this pretty Girl. by Band of Outsiders pair, with small red rosebud print on black background might be a good place to start (US $325). They’re bold without going over the top and are a fun way to add a playful element to your wardrobe. Pair with black pumps and scoop neck tee in neutral hue for an easy-to-wear (and super chic) outfit.
4. Totally tapestry
Make a bold style statement as you step out in a pair of these skinny Topshop tailored pants ($80) covered in eye-catching vintage tapestry print. The dark background offsets the richness of the print itself and offers a fashion forward alternative to staid neutral bottoms. Pair with a button-up blouse in cream and pointed toe patent flats to complete the look.
5. Star statement
It’s easy to miss the subtle star print on this pair of Current Elliot jeans at first glance but the simple print is there and makes a great foray into the printed pants trend ($265). The grey low-rise skinnies are perfect for pairing with an oversize sweater and knee-high boots for a comfy but pulled together weekend or post-work outfit.
6. Focus on floral
Florals need not by relegated to blouses and skirts (or furniture for that matter). This light-wash pair of mid-rise cropped Mango jeans with all-over floral print ($60) are easy to accessorize with their muted colours. Try adding a slouchy grey sweater and motorcycle boots to give the look some edge.
