We know the drill: January hits and you feel refreshed and energized and you swear you’ll hit the gym every day from now until summer.
Then, mid-January hits. It’s cold out and you’d rather snuggle up on the sofa with hot cocoa than make the trek to the gym. No harm in skipping the gym one night, right? Right. But then one night becomes two, and two nights becomes two weeks, and before you know it, you don’t even know where your gym pass is.
It’s all too common, so we asked Lululemon‘s project manager of self development, Chloe, to share some of her top tips for sticking to your resolutions (and how to make real resolutions that will feel even better when you keep them).
I always make goals in January, but I never stick to them. What can I do to give myself a better chance of success?
- Print out or write out your goal and put it somewhere you often linger – the bathroom, on your fridge
- Break down what it will take to achieve the goal. How much time? How much money? Get real about what it takes so that you move into action.
- Share your goals with people you love and trust. Ask them to hold you accountable.
- Put reminders in your outlook calendar.
How do I make sure my goals are attainable?
- Make sure it’s a goal that you really want to achieve. If you’re not sticking to a goal ask yourself why. Make sure you’ve set this goal for the right reasons.
- Don’t be afraid to set big goals. Sometime, failure – and understanding why you’ve failed – is just as important and achievement
What types of goals are most fulfilling to achieve?
- Goals that you feel connected to that are leading your towards your best life
- Goals that you’ve set for yourself because you truly wanted to achieve them, not because you felt like you had to or that they were expected of you.
