Each week, we’re picking our favourite dress from Mother of the Bride and showing you how you can get the look. And to make it even sweeter, Terrie (co-owner of T. Carolyn Fashions) will be sharing all of her dress-picking secrets.
Slice.ca: What was your objective?
Terrie: To help Marian celebrate her weight loss by reinventing herself.
Slice.ca: Describe the dress.
Terrie: This is a beautiful stretch net gown in the color ink (which is a dark navy). The net is very lightweight and the entire body is ruched. This gown has a beautiful V-neckline and a sweep train – so it’s equally gorgeous from behind. This gown features beautiful chunky crystals in a flattering vertical pattern drawing the eye in at the waist.
Slice.ca: Why does this dress work?
Terrie: Stretch net is a great updated fabric. It’s not stiff like other fabrics so it’s not bulky on the body; it can be made to drape in the most flattering ways. Women love this fabric because it’s lightweight and comfortable – plus it’s not the least bit matronly. Stretch net accentuates curves on women who have them and gives the illusion of curves on women who don’t. It’s very difficult to find a dress with sleeves that’s aren’t matronly, but this dress works beautifully. The V-neckline and ruched body create a super slimming elegant look.
Slice.ca: Why did you choose this dress for Marian?
Terrie: I pulled this dress for Marian because she wanted to wear a navy gown and she was insecure with her new body. Navy is a safe and emotionally comfortable colour for many women. Her family and friends were very vocal about not wanting her to wear navy. They wanted Marian to experiment and be bolder. I knew that if I put Marian in a navy gown she looked fabulous in from the beginning it would build her confidence, and in the end, help her relax, have fun and feel free to experiment.
