Fall always creates a bit of a conundrum for me. I’m not a fan of the crisper air, but the fashions are my absolute favourite. There are just so many gorgeous clothes and styling options, available in such rich, sumptuous textures and colours. Well, a recent sneak peek at Roots‘ Fall 2012 leather, apparel and watch collections, plus a preview of the label’s new Roots Raw handbag line, was so hot that cooler temperatures were entirely out of the question! The event was held at Roots’ Yorkville location in Toronto (the swanky shopping strip is often referred to as the Mink Mile) and the store’s décor was picture-perfect in all of its Canadiana glory — the perfect backdrop for showcasing the brand’s fab fall wares.
First up, the Roots Raw collection — which is just what its name suggests, as the line features unfinished edges on unlined bags in various washes and colours. The collection is subdivided into two smaller collections: Italian Raw and Parisian Raw, each of which is made with leather from their respective, famous fashionista locales.
Next, fall footwear (pictured below). While everything at Roots was oh-so-covetable, it was the stylish selection of boots that really had me drooling. Each winter I go on the hunt for the perfect pair of warm-weather waddlers and each winter I come up empty-handed (-footed?) — but I have a feeling this year will be different. This season, Roots re-introduces old faves and sprinkles in some very stylish, trendy numbers like high-heel sneakers, knee-high shearling boots and calf-high biker-style boots in neutral browns, creams and blacks and jewel-toned reds, oranges, blues and purples. All exquisite.
While much of the fall 2012 collection is quite rustic, there are some über-luxe pieces, including gorgeous quilted items and chic watches (watch out for the brown metal; a little birdie tells me it’ll be big this season).
In addition to the Roots Raw launch, Roots has also teamed up with homegrown labels Line Knitwear (this is the second time the two have joined forces) and Preloved (the beloved eco-friendly brand) for some gorgeous knitwear collections. Just look at the four stellar samples below. My only question was: Which one?!
And that, ladies and gentlemen concludes my brief journey into fall-dom. Back to the summer heat wave! Truth be told, this might prove to be the first year that I’m cool with those cooler temperatures…
