I really thought I’d seen it all on The Mistress, until last night’s season finale knocked my socks off.
Louise has been in a relationship with a married man for 20 years (20 years!) and he’s the father of her child. She’s known him for 30 years, they’ve been involved in a romantic relationship for 20, and at some point during that time, he got married — to someone else. Can you believe that? What a slap in the face.
He doesn’t help her financially, claiming he’s too broke to contribute and lets her struggle to make ends meet. It’s definitely a difficult situation, since Louise wants her MM in her life for her daughter’s sake, but their relationship is so obviously toxic. It takes her daughter sitting her down and telling her that the relationship between her mother and father has to end. It was tough to watch a 14-year-old having to handle these kinds of issues, but in the end, I think it was the best thing for them both.
After Sarah helps Louise clear out 30 years of memories, get rid of her bed and rip up the linens, Louise feels ready to move on with her life. She attends a quick speed-dating event and realizes it’s time for her to get out and meet someone. Sarah asks Louise to break up with her married man in person — can she do it?
As always, we tried to catch up with Louise to see how she’s doing. So far, we haven’t heard back.
