This week, we’re super excited to have Sarah Symonds taking over our Mistress recaps. She’s sharing her perspective and some behind-the-scenes secrets from the shoot.
I am thrilled that Slice has asked me to guest blog about this week’s two exciting episodes. Both very different, as usual. You’ll know by now that you can expect the unexpected when tuning into The Mistress.
The first episode shows Jen, a mistress of six years, and my goodness does she have a story! There are no words (that I can use here!) to describe the deceit Jen has dealt with.
This is one of my favourite episodes of the season. It was the first one we shot, and Jen bravely went on camera for us. I am eternally grateful that she did. We all loved working with her and I’m sure you fell in love with her beauty, honesty and vulnerability.
When filming The Mistress, like any show, there is so much that ends up on the cutting-room floor. There is such a small amount of time in which to air, but so much we need to get in. One of the scenes that didn’t make it into this episode was me driving a steamroller. Yes that’s right, I got my hands on some heavy equipment! We had so much of Jen’s married man’s stuff to get rid of that we just had to have back-up. Very therapeutic!
I hope you loved the shredder scene (no body parts, I assure you!) as well as what happened when we went to the driving range. Another key part of this episode is when I took Jen to the bridal shop. Oh my….when she came out of the fitting room in a fairytale wedding dress my reaction was something else.
Jen did so well with the process and worked through my 13-steps to recovery like a trooper. When we finished filming, we had a nice glass of chardonnay as I presented Jen with a signed copy of my book – Having an Affair? A Handbook for the Other Woman.
Even though she was no longer the other woman, my book helps women stay strong, and stay out of their affair, so this was my gift to Jen. A sort of graduation gift, and a way of helping her stay strong, and stand her ground.
I hope you enjoyed Jen’s episode and ladies, never let anyone steamroll over you, ya hear?
As with every episode, Slice tried to chat with Jen about her life after The Mistress. Unfortunately, they haven’t heard back.
Sarah Symonds is the author of the best-selling (and controversial) self-help manual, Having an Affair? A Handbook for the Other Woman, and has appeared on numerous TV shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Anderson, Dr. Phil and The View. She’s also the host of The Mistress, airing only on Slice.
