Dreaming of your upcoming wedding and waking up in a sweat?
Dreams are believed to be the thoughts and concerns that we occupy our mind with during the day and at night. While we are asleep, we go over all these things that have us excited, preoccupied or worried.
When I was planning my own wedding, I had a recurring dream that I was not ready on time, my hair was not done the way I wanted and sometimes, that because I was so stressed, I missed my wedding day. I have even dreamt really strange dreams of marrying someone I have never even been attracted to ever, like Wayne Gretzky! Yes, weird, I know.
Strange as it is, the majority of engaged women have bizarre wedding dreams and wake up confused. They then try to decipher what these dreams mean. In my research, here is what some experts agree on:
You dream that you are marrying the wrong guy.
No, I am not marrying Wayne Gretzky for real.
Don’t let dreams like this upset you. These dreams are not signs that you are marrying the wrong person, but it is just the brain’s way of acknowledging that marriage is a big step and may sometimes seem like you are taking a big risk.
Something or someone is missing at your wedding.
You vividly see and feel like something is critically missing on your wedding day.
Maybe your groom didn’t show up at the altar. Perhaps things have been hectic with work, wedding planning and you miss your fiancé. Spending some quality time with each other may be all you need to stop these dreams from recurring. Or, perhaps, the sweet table that you are so excited about is not set up. Because this sweet table makes you so happy, this dream may be telling you that your crazy schedule may be costing you some joy.
You don’t have a dress or you are wearing something totally hideous when you show up at the church.
A dream that you’re embarrassed or upset about what you are wearing may be an indicator that you are uncomfortable about being the center of attention. Maybe you have had a really hard time finding the perfect dress. Very commonly, this can also symbolize your fear of how marriage will change your life and who you will become. These may symbolize vulnerability and anxiety about your new life, which is okay. Everyone is scared of change but most people not only survive, but thrive with change.
You were supposed to be at the church at noon and it’s 1:00pm!
This is one nightmare that will surely have you awake in a sweat. In your dream, you forget about the changed wedding date, and show up to find that there is not a single guest there. You have missed your wedding. This is a simple and clear sign of anxiety. You may be overwhelmed by all the planning and many details, so use this dream as a push to accept some help from family and friends. Be sure to make some time for yourself to relax and enjoy the wedding planning process.
Whatever dreams you may have, happy, sad, exciting or just down right scary, don’t panic. It is simply your mind’s way of processing what has been running through it all day and trying to make sense of it all. By looking at your dreams, you may discover what is making you anxious and you may be able to alleviate these stresses.
